USEFUL WEBSITES

I have listed some websites here that I believe are noteworthy, along with some information about them and a couple of ways that they could be integrated in a classroom. I highly encourage you to give these sites a visit if you aren't familiar with them, especially if you are looking for new, innovative ways to incorporate technology in your classroom. If you have any questions or comments about these websites, or you want to share any other resources with me, please contact me!

  • Schoolology is a learning management system (LMS) created to make it easier for students and teachers to interact in once place

  • In my classroom, I think this would be useful for:

    1. Sharing graded assignments with my students and their parents so that they can keep up with their progress

    2. Communication with my students when they have questions outside of class and reminders for upcoming assignments

LINKS!
  • Socrative is a fun, new way to evaluate students using technology, with many different tools to accomplish this

  • In my classroom, I think this would be useful for:

    1. Creating exit tickets; If I want to get a quick evaluation of where my students are standing when they walk out my door, this is an easy way to do it

    2. Evaluating what they know; If I am going to start a lesson on the civil war, but I am unsure if everyone has heard of the civil war and how much detail they know, I can create a short quiz with questions that will tell me where everyone stands

  • Plickers is a new way to collect real-time formative assessment data in classrooms where technology for every individual is not available

  • In my classroom, I think this would be useful for:

    1. Interacting with the students and collecting evaluations in a non-distracting way; sometimes technology can be very distracting for students

    2. Collecting evaluations in a creative way that eliminates the problem of students changing their answer based off their peers

  • Edpuzzle helps with teachers using a flip classroom through adding interactive assessments to a teachers video, allowing teachers to make videos or use existing videos, and allowing teachers to see the assessments from their students and how many times their video is viewed

  • In my classroom, I think this would be useful for:

    1. Flipping your classroom in a way that is easy for kids to understand and interact with

    2. Unique situation: maybe you aren't flipping your classroom, but you are wanting to give students something they can view at home, maybe even for when students are absent for long periods of time, that you can ensure they are watching and are more likely to be comfortable with because they are used to your style (when you record the video yourself)

  • GoNoodle is site full of fun, interactive videos that get your students moving while keeping them engaged in the lesson

  • In my classroom, I think this would be useful for:

    1. Times like these: as with any other schedule, no school day schedule is perfect, and sometimes kids might come in for their math lesson right after snack time where they've had essentially a bag of sugar and now they're wiggling around like a noodle. This tool will help with those times of the day for when the kids just cant stay still because with these fun videos they don't have to

    2. Lessons that the kids just aren't feeling involved in. If my kids are looking extra bored and unengaged, this tool can help bring them back

  • Both of these search engines are kid-friendly for your elementary school kiddos

  • In my classroom, I think this would be useful for:

    1. Research; It's great to start kids on research at a young age, especially in a time when credible sources are becoming few and far between. Kids need to know how to verify sources, and these search engines help

    2. Everyday use; It is inevitable that kids will be on the computer doing searches just as adults do. This filtered search engine will keep your students safe as they surf the web

  • It is becoming increasingly important to teach kids about digital citizenship, or the responsibilities you have when on the web. This website is a great tool for teaching kids about this subject

  • In my classroom, I think this would be useful for:

    1. Finding complete, age appropriate lessons for teachers to use when teaching on digital citizenship, which will prove to be helpful as the subject is very new and unfamiliar for many teachers

    2. Finding games that teach kids about digital citizenship

  • Code.org is a website filled with tools to teach kids about coding. Coding education may be new to some, but it is very important and useful for teaching kids problem solving skills

  • In my classroom, I think this would be useful for:

    1. Finding lessons plans for teaching kids coding. Being that this is a very new subject for most teachers, this resource will be a huge asset

    2. Finding games to help reinforce the coding lesson both in school and at home

  • ReadWriteThink is a resource for teachers in any type of lesson planning

  • In my classroom, I think this would be useful for:

    1. Finding lessons, especially if I have an emergency and need a good one fast because they have several different types created and ready to go

    2. Finding activities for my students to do along with a lesson

  • Educreations is an interactive whiteboard and screencasting tool

  • In my classroom, I think this would be useful for:

    1. Flipping the classroom because you can record lessons and send them out to students

    2. Having the children show what they know. This would be a cool assignment that would really catch the interest of the kids! Having them send in a video for a grade would be so cool to them and would help me do assessments
